Tangram: how a round works

Bring your attention to one round of Tangram. Fill the square target with seven pieces, without gaps or overlap. Check the relevant rule before repeating a move. Identify the playing area and the controls you need. Use the example below to understand a decision.

Arrange seven pieces into the square target. Rotate or flip a piece to fit; this game currently offers one target shape.

Practice beyond the first move

Locate the buttons and input area before beginning a long round. Use the on-screen labels to avoid an accidental restart. Make the next step deliberately.

The purpose of your moves

Fill the square target with seven pieces, without gaps or overlap. An attractive position is not enough unless the goal is met. Notice how the game responds to your input.

From the start of a round

  1. Drag a selected piece.
  2. Rotate in 45-degree steps or flip it.
  3. Use snapping for precise alignment.
  4. Check the layout or use one-piece assistance.

How your actions work

Mouse/touch dragging and rotate/flip buttons. Use the control method described here for this activity. Avoid pressing the same control repeatedly while a move is being processed.

See the idea in action

The parallelogram may need flipping rather than rotation. Focus on why the action is allowed, not only its outcome. Keep the controls nearby.

An important reminder

Overlaps do not count as filling the target. Check the rule before repeating the action. Read one step at a time and try it on the playing area. Match the instruction to the control you use.
