Getting started with Dominoes

Start Dominoes by looking at the playing area and its controls. Empty your hand, or hold fewer pips when both players are blocked. Check the relevant rule before repeating a move. Read the objective before making your first input. Use the example below to understand a decision.

Double-six draw dominoes, local two players with shared-screen visible hands.

Bring this focus to a round

Take enough time to read a new position. If a game has a timer, learn its controls first rather than searching for them during the round. Notice the feedback after each input.

What the game asks you to do

Empty your hand, or hold fewer pips when both players are blocked. Use the instructions to see which actions move you towards it. Notice how the game responds to your input.

The steps to play

  1. Play a tile matching either open chain end.
  2. Choose which end to use.
  3. Draw only when no tile fits.
  4. Pass only with no legal tile and an empty stock.

Using the playing area

Click or tap a piece and destination; use the turn indicator and legal-move feedback. Keep the playing area visible while using these controls. Use one clear input at a time.

See the idea in action

An open 4 accepts 4–2, leaving 2 open. Use the example as a guide rather than a substitute for reading your board. Check the stated objective.

A mistake to avoid

You cannot ignore a legal match to draw. A different version of the game may use a different rule. Locate the buttons and input area before beginning a long round. Use the on-screen labels to avoid an accidental restart.
